history

Haiti was discovered by Christopher COLUMBUS in 1492 called at that time Hispaniola - it was under Spanish settlers for 25 years then followed by the French in the early 17th century. In 1697, Spain gave a third of the islands west side to the French, which later became Haiti. The French colony became one of the wealthiest in the Caribbean. In the late 18th century, Haiti got its independence in 1804 and became the first post-colonial black-led nation in the world due to half million slaves. Currently Haiti is considered to be the poorest country and politically unstable. A massive magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010 with an epicenter about 25 km (15 mi) west of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Estimates are that over 300,000 people were killed and some 1.5 million left homeless followed by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

Life in HAITI

Immediately after the earthquake struck Haiti January 12, 2010 and after Hurricane Matthew struck in 2016, Life sent an emergency relief team to provide food aid and water to the survivors. Since 2010 Life has been working to provide assistance to the displaced, homeless and orphaned. As part of our ongoing relief efforts Life provides food baskets during the holy of month of Ramadan and sacrifices animals and distributes meat to thousands of families during Eid Al-Adha. Life sent 11 - 40 foot shipping containers filled with tents, blankets, bottled water, food, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, medical supplies and medicines from the U. S. to Haiti to provide relief to the Haitian people. Life, with the help of its generous donors and partners, thoroughly renovated 6 Mosques that were damaged and at each site our team was able to renovate the ablution areas and provide clean water to each Mosque. Through the generosity of our donors and partners, Life was able to provide over $3 million dollars in aid to Haiti.

Food Baskets

The month of Ramadan is a time of fasting, but more so, it is a time in which Muslims are compelled to give.

Orphan Sponsorship

The need for orphan sponsorship has increased tremendously within the last decade. The influx of war has caused many to flee their homes and become displaced, affecting children the most. We have regional offices in all the countries that we sponsor Orphans in.

Udhiyah

Udhiyah in Arabic translates to any animal of the ‘an’aam class (i.e., Cow, Sheep, Goat, or Camel). Udhiyah/Qurbani is the sacrifice of the animals mentioned, after the Eid prayer. It is among the great rituals of Islam and a tradition of his blessed messengers.
