2008 - LIFE Feeds Eritrean Refugees Living in Sudan

LIFE for Relief and Development funded a project to feed some 820 Eritrean refugees

As part of its summer campaign to battle hunger in the Horn of Africa, LIFE for Relief and Development funded a project to feed some 820 Eritrean refugees living in a camp in eastern Sudan.

The project was carried out in August 2008 by LIFE partner the American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa (ARAHA).

A serious humanitarian crisis has evolved on the border between Sudan and Eritrea. There are half a million Eritrean refugees residing in more than 26 refugee camps in eastern Sudan, with an average of 100 new refugees crossing the border each day.

LIFE’s food assistance was distributed in the Shagarab Refugee Camp, which is one of the largest Eritrean camps in Sudan.  With Ramadan only days away, the food came at a critical time for the refugees whose immediate future remains uncertain.
