Celebrating Mother’s Day: How Non-Profits Provide Life-Changing Support for Orphans

In honor of Mother’s Day, we want to share a success story of an orphan who became a doctor with the help of LIFE.

Mothers are the heart and soul of every family. They are the ones who provide love, care, and support, guiding their children through life's ups and downs. For orphans, the absence of a mother figure can be particularly devastating. According to UNICEF, there are an estimated 140 million orphans worldwide, with millions of them living in poverty and facing a lack of access to basic needs such as food, shelter, education, and healthcare.

From Orphan to Doctor

Amjad Abdul Karim, a first-year student in the College of General Medicine at Al-Mustansiriya University in Iraq, knows firsthand the challenges that orphans face. Amjad's father passed away when he was just a child, leaving his mother to raise him and his siblings alone. Unfortunately, Amjad's mother also fell ill and was unable to provide the necessary love and care for her family. This left Amjad without two parental figures and also left the family in a dire financial situation.

Fortunately, LIFE stepped in to provide that much-needed support. LIFE sponsored Amjad as a young child before he even entered school. We provided him with financial and moral support, school clothes, and regular fresh food. LIFE also paid for his internet fees and medical treatments for his chronic asthma and migraine.

Thanks to the support of LIFE, Amjad was able to complete his primary and secondary education with flying colors. He was then accepted into the College of General Medicine at Al-Mustansiriya University, where he is currently pursuing his dream of becoming a doctor.

How Non-Profits Provide Essential Support and Care to Orphans

The impact of non-profits that support orphans is significant. Studies have shown that children who have lost their parents are at a higher risk of dropping out of school, experiencing poor physical and mental health, and being exposed to exploitation and abuse. However, with the support of non-profit organizations, orphans can overcome these challenges and achieve their dreams.

Amjad Abdul Karim's story is a testament to the power of support. Without the support of LIFE, he may not have been able to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. According to Amjad, "I promised myself to be successful in honor of those who support me and stand by me, which is the LIFE. organization"

The Ripple Effect of Amjad's Success

The impact of Amjad's success goes beyond his own personal achievement. As a skilled doctor, he will be able to give back to his community and provide critical healthcare services to those in need. This ripple effect is crucial in breaking the cycle of poverty and supporting the development of communities.

Mothers are Irreplaceable

Mothers are irreplaceable in the lives of children, especially orphans. Their love and support are fundamental to a child's development and growth. Though non-profit organizations can never take the place of a mother, they can play a critical role in providing the care and support that these children need to thrive. Amjad Abdul Karim's story is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of such organizations. By supporting orphans, we are not only changing their lives but also the future of our communities.
