Life for Relief and Development Builds Community and Fosters Growth in Kadjebi, Ghana

There are many conflicts around the world rooted in the belief that our differences are greater than our similarities. However, places like Kadjebi in the Oti Region of Ghana are proof that there can be peaceful coexistence between people of different belief systems and ethnicities.

Kadjebi is a community in the southern part of the Oti Region whose population is a mixture of Muslims and Christians, with farming as their major source of livelihood. As a small agrarian community, it lacks the funding needed to build infrastructures that benefit its people.

To build up this beautiful community, Life for Relief and Development engaged in two special projects–the building of Al Furqan Community Center and an artesian water well.

The projects were completed on October 30, 2023, and were celebrated in a ceremony by the whole community.

Improvements, such as a community center, can change the neighborhood for the better.

It is a hub where people can socialize, learn, and create connections.

Why community centers matter:

● Enhancing Quality of Life

By offering social, educational, and wellness programs, community centers contribute to enhancing the quality of life for residents.

● Building Community Identity

Community centers also play a key role in shaping the identity of a neighborhood. They serve as a common meeting ground and as a physical symbol of community belonging.

● Bridging the Gap

Community centers are uniquely positioned to bridge gaps in society by promoting inclusivity and diversity, facilitating intergenerational connections, and providing services to those in need.

Besides a community center, the building of a water well will drastically improve the lives of the Kadjebi people. Not only is clean water essential for the health and survival of everyone, but it is also essential for the growth of its economy, as they mainly depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

Establishing the Al Furqan Community Center and artesian water well will benefit approximately 200 and 800 people, respectively.

There was such excitement in the air as the people of Kadjebi celebrated the additions to their community. Their faces shine in their joy and happiness, thanks to LIFE, its donors, staff, and volunteers.
